IPSY August 2014 Overview
*For those of you who don’t know what IPSY is, it’s basically a beauty subscription for $10 a month and you’ll receive a mix of full size and sample size beauty products to test. Additionally, the products are tailored to your preferences based on a survey you take upon subscribing and always come in a cute bag!*
After patiently waiting over a week for this bag, it finally arrived this morning. In this month’s bag I received the following items:
- Coastal Scents Shadow Palette Samples – Set #32 (Value: $2.60)
- Urban Decay Perversion Mascara (Value: $5.50)
- Cali Cosmetics Evulcano Body Lotion (Value: $4.00)
- Jersey Shore Sun Mongongo Lip Conditioner (Value: $5.50)
- Manna Kadar Cosmetics Sheer Glo (Value: $7.83)
- Total Bag Value: $25.43
I was surprised when my bag arrived this month because the pink bubble mailer was open! Apparently the adhesive that IPSY used to seal the mailer wasn’t strong enough to endure the travel to my house. This is the first time that it has ever happened to me and thankfully all my items were untouched and present.
Hits: Each subscriber was going to receive a sample of the Perversion Mascara or the 24/7 Velvet Glide-on Eyeliner in the shade Plushie (a dark purple color). I’ve been eyeing the new Urban Decay Perversion Mascara for a while now and I’m thrilled that I received it in my bag. I’m even more grateful because I already own the eyeliner in that exact shade! I haven’t opened the sample yet since I have over ten mascaras still in their packages waiting to be used. Once I do use it, I will be sure to share the results with you guys.
Misses: Without a doubt, the Cali Cosmetics Evulcano Body Lotion is a miss for me. This body lotion contains volcanic minerals, Italian olive oil, and Sicilian lemons. This product has a strong lemon scent that I find pleasing but I already found my holy grail body lotion so I’m just going to toss this to the swap pile. Another miss was the Manna Kadar Cosmetics Sheer Glo which is a liquid that adds a luminous glow to the skin. This liquid can be worn alone or mixed in with your foundation, which claims to add a dewy finish. I noticed that the product has small sparkles/shimmer infused which I personally don’t think I’d want on my face. To the swap pile this goes too!
The rest of the items are okay but nothing special. I’m indifferent towards the Coastal Scents Shadow Palette since I already own many of their eyeshadow palettes. I wish that the sample sizes were slightly larger and packaged differently. Sometimes when you reach in for a color with your brush the excess fallout mixes with another color. The Jersey Shore Lip Conditioner smells like a candy I used to eat when I was little however the name escapes me. The scent is strong and does linger on the lips for a while but at least the formula is moisturizing. I don’t mind receiving lip balms since I tend to go through a single tube within a few weeks.
This month’s bag was not the cutest in my opinion and the material that it’s made out of is similar to the one used to make inflatable pool toys. It even smells like a pool toy! I think they could have chosen a nicer design since a new school year is starting and this month’s theme is “Beauty Schooled.” All in all, the value of the bag was double what I paid and I at least will be using three out of the five items. Not the best IPSY bag but certainly not the worst one either.
