Is high end mascara really worth the hype? I was sent this YSL Mascara complimentary for review by Influenster. I have never bought a high end mascara before because I honestly never believed that it was worth the splurge. The YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils had a formula revamp and is now available in six different colors for a wooping $32. This is mascara is rather pricey and almost the price of a regular 1oz foundation! Pretty crazy if you ask me but I’m grateful that I was sent this product for review.
This mascara has a dense nylon fiber brush with lots of bristles and the actual formula is wet. The formula is infused with “B5 Pro-Vitamin” which is supposed to strengthen your lashes; however, I didn’t notice any improvement in my lashes. YSL advertises this mascara by saying it has a triple-intensity formula that will provide you with “intense volume, intense color and intense care.”

As you can see from the pictures above, I really didn’t get much volume from the mascara but instead I got a lot of lengthening. I tried wiggling the brush in several different ways to achieve a more voluminousness effect but nothing worked, it would just result in slight clumping. I do agree that the color is intense and has great pigmentation on the lashes but does that make up for the lack of volume I achieved? Definitely not. I did notice that the mascara did not flake after 6+ hours of wear and was able to hold a curl for about a max of 3 hours. I didn’t see much intense care action going on when I used this mascara either so basically this formula turned into a one-intensity for me.
Final verdict, will I purchase this mascara after it dries up? No. Although the packaging of this mascara is sleek and beautiful, I think that most of my drugstore mascaras provide me with the same lengthening results for a third of the price. If this mascara had given me both great length and volume then I probably would consider purchasing it even though the price is really high for a mascara in my opinion. UPDATE: After consistent use, I noticed that after removing the wand from the tube there is a lot of product lost that clumps at the rim. I tried to push the product back in but as soon as you bring the wand back out the product clumps again. This issue is a huge con that outweighs the pros of this mascara.
