Five Great Drugstore Makeup Products Under $5!*

5 great drugstore products under $5five under five makeup
Being the thrifty girl I am, I always try to find products that out perform most others at the drugstore. A few years ago, when I first started getting into makeup I would experiment with various items from CVS, Target, and Walgreens. I was known as the coupon queen among my friends because there was never a time that I would pay more than a few cents or a couple of bucks for a pretty big haul. Now that I’m more experienced with beauty products I came up with a list of a few of my favorites that are affordable and keep me coming back. These are great for anyone just starting out, on a budget, or just wants to find a hidden gem for their collection that’s under $5!
wet n wild eyeshadow

Wet N’ Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Trio – $2.79-$2.99

Finding good pigmented eyeshadow palettes with good lasting power can take a few tries but I know I can always rely on Wet N’ Wild’s trios. These are pigmented, easy to work with and user friendly because they tell you where each color should go. So let’s say you’re a teen just starting out with your first palette these can help you understand the basic areas of your eyes (lid, crease, browbone). They do have a bit of fall out and sometimes the shadows can shatter easily from a fall but overall, the quality is great. If you’re looking for a good trio to start off with, I recommend Walking On Eggshells because I have so many friends that started out using this palette and they fell in love with it.
elf eyeliner

e.l.f. Expert Eyeliner – $2.00

This eyeliner has a very thin wand which is perfect for precise winged liner and the color is a really dark black, love it. The formula is really watery but it’s not too difficult to work with either. The only thing I don’t like about this product is that the packaging isn’t sturdy, my cap cracked trying to close the bottle, and the writing wore off completely. Besides that the wear time is pretty good and if you don’t rub or touch your eye it will last the whole night.
jordana eyeshadow

Jordana Made To Last Liquid Eyeshadow – $4.99

These eyeshadows are the bomb, no lie. They have amazing lasting power and blend well with other liquid, powder, or cream shadows. I hope the shade selection expands soon because I would buy them all; however, it’s always a mission to find Jordana products at my local stores. Either there are no products anywhere or the few products that I see on the shelves have been picked at by other shoppers so obviously can’t buy those. For a more in depth review with a wear test, you can click here to read my previous blog post about them. If you do see them, grab them you won’t regret it!!
wet n wild lipsticks

Wet N’ Wild Mega Last Lipsticks – $1.97-$2.29

These lipsticks are one of the best at the drugstores. They’re highly pigmented and they apply smoothly on the lips. There are very few shades that are streaky and the collection carries lots of colors that fit multiple skin tones. The only thing that I wish was better was the packaging because it’s a bit flimsy. One of my lipsticks fell off the counter and the whole container came apart so I have to keep the actual lipstick inside a zipblock bag, yup classy I know. I have a separate blog post with full lip swatches, you can read it here if you’re interested!
nyx lip gloss

NYX Butter Gloss – $4.99

All that I want from a lip gloss is that it’s not sticky and provides color and this is exactly what these products do. The shade selection is pretty wide ranging from light nudes to dark plums and reds. This is another product that is usually picked at by other shoppers so make sure you double check before purchasing. The wear time is typical for a lip gloss and they do transfer but honestly, which lip gloss doesn’t?

Hope you give these a try and if you do let me know which you liked! Until next time, peace out!

Pür Cosmetics – Chrome Glaze High-Shine Lip Gloss Review*

Arm Candy

lip swatch pur cosmetics heart breaker

Heart Breaker

Today I bring you a review on some of Pür Cosmetics new Chrome Glaze High-Shine Lip Glosses which were provided to me for testing purposes. This new line carries six shades, is cruelty free, and costs $18 each.  Each lip gloss contains .07oz of product which is much less than other competitors; for instance, NYX Cosmetics Butter Gloss .27oz, Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss .13oz, Urban Decay Revolution High-Color Lip Gloss .17oz, and Bareminerals Marvelous Moxie Lip Gloss .15oz.

The packaging of these lip glosses is very minimalistic and sleek which I quite enjoy especially since you can see the shade of the gloss just by looking at the tube. Each one contains hints of shimmer that really help create the “chrome glaze” effect on your lips. The applicator is a doe foot with a pointed tip and it is slightly angled. I think this is honestly one of the best applicators I’ve used in a lip product because it fits perfectly into the contours of my lips and allows for really precise application while applying enough product for an even coat.

From the three shades I was given, Squad has to be my favorite because it acts as a muted warm peachy/nude on my lips. Squad and Arm Candy both are pretty consistent in formula and apply with full opacity. Heart Breaker is rather streaky as you can tell in the swatch picture above and unfortunately was rather unflattering on my NC37 skin tone. On a positive note, they are not very sticky but do have a slight grab to them. They’re stickier than NYX Butter Glosses but about as sticky as BareMinerals Moxie Glosses. You won’t have any of gloss still trying to stick together when opening your mouth, as other glosses do, thank goodness. When you remove the gloss you will have shimmer left over, so you may have to put extra time in using your makeup wipe or cleansing balm to try and take them off.

The wear time was about the same as I get with most of my lip glosses. If I didn’t have anything to eat or drink it would last between two and three hours. It does transfer when eating or drinking but that is to be expected. I think I will get the most wear out of Squad since its shade is similar to the shades I wear on a daily basis. I personally would be wary of trying the shade DIY from the line because it is very light and may be streaky like Heart Breaker. Overall, I think they perform pretty well and have a decent formula but the price point is pretty high for the amount of product you’re purchasing in my opinion. BareMinerals is also a higher-end brand sold at Ulta and their Moxie Marvelous Lip Gloss is sold for the same price but has double the amount of product. If you really like these colors with shimmer or the chrome glaze effect these would be perfect for you. Until next time, peace out!

Show Off Lip Lacquers in (left to right): Luna – 500, Comet – 200, Celestial – 101, Galaxy – 301, Big Bang – 400. The last one is Show Off Lip Velvet Matte in Burning Lava – 505.

I decided to start swatching all my lipsticks by makeup brand and I’ll be starting with Rimmel! My favorite collection definitely has to be the Lasting Finish lipsticks by Kate Moss because they’re so creamy and they really are long lasting. They do have a nice fruity scent which I surprisingly enjoy meanwhile the Moisture Renew lipsticks I feel are of lesser quality and have a Play-Doh like scent. The Show Off Lip Lacquers are highly pigmented lip glosses, moisturizing, and have a fruity scent just like the Lasting Finish lipsticks. The Show Off  Lip Velvet Matte is also pigmented, however, they are more of a semi-matte lip product in my opinion, and they have a soft scent too.  I recommend trying the Lasting Finish lipsticks by Kate Moss and the Show Off Lip Lacquers!

Ipsy October 2014 Unboxing

October 2014 Ipsy

Contents of the bag:

  • Ercu Acacia Protein BB Cream Beauty Balm for Hair (Value: $12.00)
  • MicaBeauty Mineral Eye Shadow: Night Colors in the shade Reluctance (Value: $14.95)
  • Skyn Iceland Mini Glacial Cleansing Cloths (Value: $5.00)
  • Starlooks Lip Gloss in the shade Guilty Pleasure (Est. Value: $2.00)
  • Product that was not received: ROGUE by Rihanna Eau De Parfum (Value: $9.99)
  • Total Bag Value: $43.94
  • Replacement product received: Figs & Rouge Rose Berry Hand Cream (Value: $6.56)
  • Actual Bag Value: $40.51

As you can see Ipsy failed to send me an item in this month’s glam bag, Rogue by Rihanna, and instead sent me the Fig & Rouge hand cream. I contacted Ipsy telling them I was missing an item the day I received my bag and their customer service representative was extremely kind and placed a replacement order. I was disappointed to receive the hand cream instead of what I was promised. I messaged the representative about receiving the cream and she said they were all out of perfumes. I would’ve preferred if they had told me beforehand that the perfume was sold out and allowed me to choose a different product because I won’t be using the hand cream at all.

The Starlooks lip gloss is slightly sticky but far from unbearable and smells like vanilla. However, this product is once again made for ants and definitely could have been larger. I’m always happy to receive facial wipes because I can never have too many. My only worries about the Skyn wipes is that they contain cucumber extract and my skin seems to be very sensitive to that ingredient so I’m hoping it doesn’t cause any irritations. I’ve never heard of BB cream for hair so I’m excited to see how good it’ll work for my hair. Lastly, the MicaBeauty eyeshadow is going to the swap pile because most mineral eyeshadows I’ve tried haven’t been opaque.

Thanks for reading and here are some promo codes from this month’s Ipsy products that you may use for your purchases! Peace to the outttt.
